Phase 1

Basic

Obedience is the foundation for all our training. Sit, here, and heal are the basic commands. Force fetch, collar conditioning, stopping and coming in on whistle are also part of Basics.

Phase 2

Gun dog

This is actually part of basics. The dog is exposued to duck and goose calls, decoys, dog stands, layout blinds, gun fire and another dog working. Dogs are capable of performing multiple marks, stopping on a whistle, changing direction with hand signals to find a blind retrieve on land and water.

Phase 3

Advanced

This training is actually an extension of the gun dog phase. Retrieving distances are much greater.

Technical marking setups are taught. Blind retrieves are more complex. Lines to and from marks and blind retrieves are much more demanding.

Drills in the yard and actual field setups are important components of all these phases. Yard work and field work are done on a daily bases with bumpers used for training drills and birds (live or dead pen raised) used daily in field setups.

Our hunt-test dogs compete in both AKC and UKC licensed hunt tests. The first two phases of our hunt test program are fundamentally the same as field trial training programs. We incorporate hunt test training for today’s AKC and UKC hunt tests.
